Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club
About
Affordable and enjoyable Arnold Palmer design by the sea
The only Arnold Palmer-designed course in Thailand and often blessed with cooling sea breezes, Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club presents an opportunity to score well provided the wind isn't too high. Unlike many newly opened golf courses which look bare and open, Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club has been open long enough for the trees to mature, which together with the wonderful flowers on display throughout, make this course a joy to play.
Although close to the sea, you won’t find too many water hazards on the course, and despite the wide fairway of the 1st offering a gentle start, it's not all plain sailing. The 3rd is a dogleg right with water all along one side and an elevated, heavily contoured green protected by five bunkers, while the 5th is another scenic dogleg with water along the right, a cluster of fairway bunkers at the apex of the dogleg, and a narrow two-tier green with bunkers in front and behind.
Other highlights include the 11th, the longest par 3 on the course, which usually plays into the prevailing wind to a green protected by three menacing bunkers. The 13th is a long par-5 whose green is circled by seven bunkers, while our favourite, the 17th, features a narrow landing zone with water and bunkers along the right, and a green that's protected with water left and OB right.
Some fairways are a little worn and could do with some work, and the course can be difficult to find, but the cheap green fees that make this course so popular with the locals are more than enough to compensate for such minor gripes.
Reviews
Single player passed 2. Groups 3,5 h playtime, caddy a bit inexperienced in course but it did not matter
Nice quite easy course lot of room lost two balls in rough that is quite long. Length markings had only colors that caddy did not recognize as well as the cart paths where not too familiar.Course is a bit far from center of city and can be windy on some holes
Overall a well maintained course with fast and consistent greens. Some fairways a little spotty but not on many holes. I had an older caddie who is very good at reading the greens. The pace of play on weekend is slow, but they do allow single player to jump around holes to speed up.Nice course with trainee caddies
Given caddies that literally didn’t know what to do. Didn’t know how to drive the carts, didn’t know they are supposed to watch the ball or shout after a wayward shot. Dangerous in the end as I had to shout “fore” but a screaming caddie is the real “fore” in Thailand. Ruined the day, telling them what to do and where to drive for safety all the time. Also slow as they just stood around, we had to tell them to get back into carts and drive. Great service from golfsavers as usual, not their fault. The course should have some level of training for a service that is an extra charge.Course Info
